The phenomenological research on elderly women¡¯s life experiences after the loss of their husbands through death at the older ages

Abstract
This study is a qualitative research using a phenomenological research design which refers tounderstand elderly women¡¯s adjustment process for independent living and to find out themeaning of feeling and experience regarding their lives after the loss of their husbands throughdeath. Data were collected by 8 in-depth interviews. Data has derived 23 theme clusters andlastly 7 categories using Colaizzi¡¯s phenomenological method of data analysis. These women haveexperienced ¡®the visiting a variety of psychological phenomenon¡¯ and have identified ¡®the changesin physical condition¡¯. They also have experienced ¡®the changing of living conditions¡¯ and haverecovered from their depression through ¡®the meaning of social support¡¯. Moreover, these womenhave discovered their potential and resilience pursuing ¡®the vigor of their lives focusing on socialactivities¡¯, and have developed their lives ¡®preparing for their death positively¡¯. Theresults of the study leads these women, themselves, not only to understand their lives and tofind out what maladjustment is and what difficulties they had faced, but also to solve theirdifficulties.
